The Safety Council of Greater Columbus, sponsored by the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio, is proud to have launched www.safecolumbus.org. The site, exclusively sponsored by Continental Building Systems, provides access to members and nonmembers of the council to learn more about what Ohio employers are doing to ensure a safe workplace for all employees.

Continental Building Systems

The number one core value of Continental Building Systems is SAFETY, with the “utmost concern for the safety and welfare of all individuals”

From the pre-bid process to commencement of work to owner occupancy, Continental Building Systems’ primary objective on any project is to prevent personal injury and property damage. No other feature of the project is of greater importance to Continental Building Systems and nothing overrides this principle.

That’s why Continental is proud to participate in the Safety Council of Greater Columbus (SCGC) and to sponsor the SCGC Web site.

Both organizations are committed to increasing safety awareness on the job and in the community. The Safety Council of Greater Columbus provides quality safety training and outreach efforts to hundreds of companies that work in the Central Ohio area. Continental Building Systems supports this training, not just through sponsorships, but also through active participation, with several employees attending SCGC meetings each month.

“The SCGC meetings provide a great opportunity to learn about new safety issues, receive reinforcement about existing safety concerns and network with other individuals who face similar challenges,” said Meg DeWerth, safety director for Continental.

Continental’s commitment to safety is reflected in our status as an industry leader in construction safety throughout the United States.

  • Ohio: Continental Building Systems is proud to be the first Columbus-based contractor to receive state-wide acceptance into OSHA’s most prestigious partnership, the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

  • Pennsylvania: Continental achieved site-specific VPP Star Status for the new corporate offices for CONSOL Energy near Pittsburgh.

  • California: CBS received recognition as a Golden State Site from Cal-OSHA for the Streets of Brentwood, a regional lifestyle center project near Oakland.

  • North Carolina: Continental received a letter of commendation from North Carolina OSHA for safety and health success on Atkins Circle, a large condominium/apartment complex in Charlotte.

  • West Virginia: CBS was invited by OSHA to enter a cooperative strategic partnership for a new life and health center for Christ Temple Church in Huntington, West Virginia.

  • All Markets: Continental Building Systems has been honored with numerous safety awards, including:

    • A prestigious Builders Exchange (BX) safety award for 11 consecutive years, with a record total of 22 awards – more than any other contractor has ever received.

    • Being the first and only company to ever receive two BX Safety Innovation Awards in the same year – a feat we accomplished with two awards in both 2006 and 2007, and five awards in 2008.

    • The SCGC 100% Award for achieving zero lost-workdays

    • The SCGC Group Award for having the lowest incident rate for general contractors

    • The SCGC Special Award for working over 500,000 hours and at least six months without a lost-time incident

Continental is extremely proud of these accomplishments, but even more proud of the positive impact our safety culture has on our projects – resulting in highly productive, cost-effective, professional jobs that are finished on time with happy employees and satisfied owners.

No accidents, no bad press, no delays or interruptions. Just our sincere promise to do all we can to keep everyone on CBS projects safe and healthy.

This is what you should expect and what you will experience when you work with Continental Building Systems. Because safety begins with people who care and those people are the employees of Continental Building Systems.
