The Bureau of Workers' Compensation and the Safety Council of Greater Columbus celebrated its 5^th Annual Awards Banquet to recognize participating companies with outstanding safety statistics. In cooperation with sponsors Sauer Group, Inc., Careworks Family of Companies, and Converse Electric, Inc., the SCGC hosted keynote speaker Harvey Alston.

The awards were determined based on the semi-annual injury and illness reports that companies submitted as part of participation in the council. For the SCGC's 5^th Awards Banquet, the BWC recognized companies in the following categories:

• Achievement Award – 25% reduction in incident rate from the previous year
• Group Award – lowest incident rate in each group
• 100% Award – one year without a lost-time injury or illness
• Special Award – at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without a lost-time injury

The awards banquet was held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Makoy Center, 5462 Center St., Hilliard.

An Ohio BWC’s Division of Safety and Hygiene representative recognized the winners with award certificates. Alston presented "Be the Best". He encourages individual responsibility for achievement, and believes in solitary achievement, shared accomplishment and the dignity of human beings.
