Welcome to the Safety Council of Greater Columbus

Dear Safety Council of Greater Columbus Member,

Since July of 2005, the Safety Council of Greater Columbus has provided valuable safety training and awareness to Central Ohio employers. In addition to the programming, participation in the Council earned workers’ comp rebates for state-funded employers – totaling more than $1.5 million dollars. All of these services have been offered at minimal costs to participants.

Funding for the Safety Council of Greater Columbus was earned through monthly meeting sponsorships, no-show fees, and in large part, by a stipend from the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. This funding, for all councils, has been dramatically reduced starting July 1, 2008. For example, the stipend for your council – the Safety Council of Greater Columbus – has been reduced 60% for 2008-2009. With the reduction in funding, the Steering Committee does not want to reduce your expectations of service. So, like councils throughout Ohio, the Safety Council of Greater Columbus is initiating a yearly participation fee of $100 per policy number, starting BWC Fiscal Year 2008-2009.

This fee will not fully cover the loss of funding, but through cost-controlling measures and the reduction of unnecessary expenses, the Steering Committee believes it can continue to provide the same quality service you have grown to expect. The SCGC has never been a for-profit entity. The only goal was to cover the costs of programming and administration. After scrutinizing all of the Safety Council costs, a participation fee is the only remedy to the cut in funding.

To remain eligible to attend SCGC programming, please remit a check payable to the Safety Council of Greater Columbus, for each policy number enrolled in the council, no later than Thursday, July 31, 2008. If payment has not been received by close of business, your firm will be removed from eligibility for the 2008-2009 BWC Fiscal Year. Additionally, if payment is not received, your firm will only be able to attend monthly meetings by paying a nonmember fee per person, each month you attend.

Many firms have outstanding balances with the SCGC. If your firm is included, you’ll find a statement included in this letter. Please remit payment for all outstanding invoices at the same time you pay your participation fee. For questions, feel free to call Kelly or Mary at 614/486-9521. Thank you for your continued participation in the Safety Council of Greater Columbus.

Sincerely,

Mary Corbett Logan
